What can cause the voltage across reactances in a series RLC circuit to be higher than the voltage applied to the entire circuit?
Pick an answer to check it.
Answer: A. Resonance
At resonance in a series RLC circuit, the inductive and capacitive reactances cancel, so current is limited only by resistance and can be large. That large current through each reactance can produce voltages much higher than the applied voltage.
Tip: Series resonance multiplies voltage by Q.
