Why are cores of inductors and transformers sometimes constructed of thin layers?
Pick an answer to check it.
Answer: B. To reduce power loss from eddy currents in the core
Thin insulated layers (laminations) break up circular eddy currents induced in the core. Smaller eddy currents mean less power lost as heat.
Tip: Laminations cut eddy current losses.
